As for the fear of deception, that depends a good deal on your expectations. If you think of it, the 85 is a prime lens, so whatever picture you'll take will have the same field angle... and it's a short tele, so you can't even THINK of taking wide-open landscape photos with it... So what?

I have it and I use it for whatever it fits for. But it's me having to adapt to it. The same will happen to you if you decide to buy it. That's all.

PS: BTW, the lens I like most for landscapes is the 300 f/4...
